In Loving Memory of Andreas Zambakkides
Andreas Zambakkides, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on April 5, 2024.
Born in Cyprus in 1944, Andreas embarked on an extraordinary journey that saw him leave his homeland at the age of 20.
He brought his two brothers, Tony and John, from Cyprus to Canada leaving behind his eldest brother Kleanthis, and selflessly looked after them for several years. He later sponsored his parents' move to Canada, providing them with a loving and secure environment during their golden years. His selflessness, generosity, and boundless love knew no bounds and he left an indelible mark on the lives of all those he embraced as family.
Andy began his skilled trades journey with the British Military, in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) in Cyprus. His mechanical expertise took him from machining at Fleet Aircraft to supervising and machine fitting and repair at Whiting Equipment. For over 35 years, he was a force in Machine Repair at General Motors. Known affectionately as "Andy The Greek," he could have easily pursued a career in comedy with his knack for cracking jokes on any subject, for any audience, at any time!
Beyond retirement, Andy was deeply committed to his Greek Church and Community Centre in Niagara. He was always happy to help with repairs and renovations and he actively participated in various community events, volunteering his time and energy to uplift his fellow community members. His warm smile, kind heart, and infectious laughter endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His dedication to community spirit and compassion made him a treasured figure, and his impact on the lives he touched will be remembered for generations to come.
He considered leisure time an opportunity to fix something for somebody. Whether it was a car, plumbing, flooring, or small renovations, it didn't matter because he could do it all. Andy’s hands were like magic, capable of turning any problem into a solution with skill and precision. No task was too daunting for him, and no challenge too great. In his hands, broken things found new life, and people found a reliable friend they could always count on.
He relished spending quality time with his loved ones, creating countless cherished memories. Whether it was sharing laughter at family gatherings, sharing traditional Greek meals, or dancing to the euphoric tunes of Greek music, Andreas's presence radiated love and joy.
One thing was certain: nothing filled his heart with more joy than being in the presence of his beautiful grandchildren. He would regale them with stories and jokes for hours, all while filling their faces with food and their hearts with love.
He could have penned a novel about his adventures by the sea, alongside his brothers and friends, as they explored the island like characters out of the adventures of Indiana Jones. His tales were as captivating as they were endless, each one infused with the spirit of adventure and the bonds of friendship that defined his life.
As we bid farewell to Andreas, let us find solace in the beautiful memories he has left us. May we honor his memory by embracing his spirit of love, resilience, and compassion towards others. Although he may no longer be with us physically, the impact of his love and selflessness will continue to inspire those who remember him.

• Spouse: Stamatia Zambakkides (married on December 7th, 1968)
• Eldest Daughter: Cristal Davis (husband Mark, children Dyana, Tommy, and Yianni)
• Daughter: Nina Sharpe (husband Steve, children Michael, Benjamin, and Jacob)
• Son: Michael Zambakkides (children Andreas and Alexander, Partner Crystal, children Kiara, Olivia, Abigail and Frankie)
• Brother Kleanthis (wife Adroula, daughter Louisa)
• Brother John Zambakkides (wife Gina, children Mary and Michael)
• Brother Tony Zambakkides (wife Chareklea, son Michael)
He was preceded in death by his baby sister Mary, Father Michael, and Mother Crystal Zambakkides.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The First Thrice Holy Hymn Service/Trisagio will occur on Thursday, April 11, at 11:00 AM at George Darte Funeral Home. The second Thrice Holy Hymn Service/Trisagio and funeral service will be at 12:00 PM at St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church, 585 Niagara St, followed by interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
Andreas’ wishes are for donations (Cheque only - no cash at the funeral home) to the St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church in lieu of flowers.
