Sister Marjorie Rose Kuntz SFCC, passed peacefully into the beloved arms of her Spouse, Jesus Christ, early Wednesday morning, September 19, 2012 at St. Catharines General Hospital in her 86th year. Born in Teeswater, Ontario into a large, musical, faith-filled family, Marjorie entered the Sisters of St. Joseph at the age of 19 as †˜Sister Mary Edna†™. She served as a nursing Sister for 35 years at St. Michael†™s and St. Joseph†™s Hospitals in Toronto, and at Morrow Park. Sister received her B.Sc.N. in †˜72, University of Windsor and was affectionately known on campus as †˜the singing nun†™. Next, she enjoyed working as a Public Health Nurse for a number of years in Toronto. Following this, Sister worked as a missionary to Native peoples in Tofino, BC and also served with the Sisters of St. Ann and with the Oblate Fathers on Meares Island, BC. Later, Sr.Marge was asked to serve in Winnipeg, MB as a Pastoral Assistant with the Redemptorists. Here, she was introduced to the L'Arche Community where she delighted in the joy and love of the disabled community. It was here that she met her dear friend, the late Sr. Marie Leckie SFCC. Marjorie joined the Sisters for Christian Community and moved to Hamilton ON where she served seven years in Hospital Chaplaincy at St. Joseph†™s Hospital. She was then called to Nanaimo BC, where she directed the Nanaimo Hospice Program and began grief counselling at Sands Funeral Chapel. She spent her remaining years in Ontario where she retired to the Mount Carmel Retirement Residence. Beloved daughter of the late Harold and Edna Kuntz, Marjorie is survived by her sisters Rita Johnson (BC), Blanche Tostengard (AZ), Mariann Dunn (Ancaster, ON), Joyce O†™Hara (Ireland) and brother Clair Kuntz( BC). Predeceased by her sister Laverne Snell (St. Catharines ON) and brothers Nelson Kuntz (Abbotsford BC) and Gerald Kuntz (Squamish BC). She will be greatly missed by 46 nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews who loved her simply as †œAunt Marge†�. All of us will dearly miss her sense of humour, love for music and passion for sharing her faith and love for the Blessed Mother. Special thanks to Karen †œher angel of mercy†� in her last days, and to the caring Sisters and staff at Mount Carmel Retirement Residence.
Her family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, on Friday, September 21st from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Friday at 7:30pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, September, 22nd at Star of the Sea Church, 34 Elgin Street, Port Dalhousie (St. Catharines) at 10am. Cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to L'Arche Canada Foundation( larchefoundation.ca) would gratefully be accepted - or to a charity of your choice.
