Eileen was a treasured and supportive friend during our teenage years in Georgetown. We were in a little band of sisters who attended St. George’s Church, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and organized the AYPA. I cannot recall when she ever declined requests for help or guidance. Eileen smoothed my transition from small town to big city by harbouring me in her Malton home until I was able to find lodging at Willard Hall where Eila had been an alum. Over the years we lost contact but I never forgot the kindness she showed. I can still hear her playing Onward Christian Soldiers on the out-of-tune piano in the church clubhouse. Play on dear friend.
