Obituary of Elinor Catherine O'Neill
It is with profound sadness the O’Neill family announces the death of Elinor Catherine O’Neill (nee Connelly) on June 26,2024. Predeceased by her loving husband Robert F O’Neill Jr. (2001), her son John O’Neill (1963), and her sisters Elizabeth Rose Bond and Mary Francis Brettle. Elinor is survived by her son Patrick Francis and her daughter-in-law Colleen Margaret. She was known lovingly as “Flair” to her granddaughters, Moira Ruth and Eilish Catherine.
Elinor is also remembered by her sister Anne Warmuth, brother Albert Connelly, and many nieces and nephews.
Elinor’s professional beginnings were founded and continued in the Catholic education system as a teacher and guidance counsellor located within the Niagara region, Toronto, London, and Calgary. Over the years Elinor’s academic achievements and her love of learning, led Elinor to become a psychotherapist. With Elinor’s guidance people learned to believe in themselves. Elinor’s giving presence continued in volunteerism associated with the St. Catharines Public Library, Catholic Women’s League and the Canadian Federation of University Women. Elinor’s legacy will be remembered as one of joy, love, and caring for others. Knowing her was a privilege for us all.
Cremation has taken place. A Catholic funeral mass will be held on Friday July 5, 2024 at 9:00 am at St. Julia’s Roman Catholic Church located at 251 Glenridge Avenue, St. Catharines, ON. Reception to follow in the church hall.
Donations would be appreciated in Elinor’s memory to St. Catharines Public Library, Catholic Women’s League(St Julia’s ) or Canadian Federation of University Women.
