Obituary of Gordon Albert Moore
Gordon Albert Moore
1939-2024
Peacefully, at the St Catharines General Hospital, from a short but persistent bout of pneumonia, after coping so well since his stroke 5 years ago, on August 21, 2024 in his 85th year, Gordon Albert Moore, dear husband for 46 years to Dale Louise Moore (nee Koz).
Born on September 14, 1939 in South Porcupine, Ontario, raised in East York by parents Albert (1989) and Helen (Ellen) (2002) Moore, then spending a rich and enjoyable life in his beloved Toronto, and finally in St Catharines, Ontario after his stroke.
Brother-in-law to Richard and Diane Koz (2022) Wiszniowski, Uncle to Michael and Sheryl Wiszniowski, Great Uncle to Hudson and Hannah. Also survived by cousins in Ontario and Nova Scotia, family in Kent in the UK, and Dale’s family in the Niagara area, especially his “good buddy” Sean Bradley, who kept Gordon going with so many local ventures, among their favourites, coffee outings to enjoy all those great ships on the Welland Canal.
For more than 50 years Gordon worked in Toronto as a lithographer in the graphic arts trade; for more than 60 years he worked out almost daily as a proud member of the downtown
Toronto YMCA; and for more than 30 years he was a loyal member of the William Morris Society of Canada, serving some 10 years as a director on the board.
Gordon found and appreciated the good luck in his life and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Light-hearted, fun-loving, inquisitive, he easily made so many friends along the way. He enjoyed people and everyone always had a good time in Gordon’s good company. He and Dale cherished their life together, enjoying so many things, not the least of which were their home and their pets, history and reading, theatre and music (notably jazz), but especially travel, near or afar. Gordon loved a new car, and loved to drive, so there were lots of great road trips.
We thank all those who cared for Gordon over the years at home, in hospitals and in re-hab and care centres, and finally at Extendicare, his last port of call.
May all his dear pet kitties of the past be forever by his side as together they rest in peace.
The Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St. on Saturday, September 14th from 12pm. A Final Tribute for Gordon will follow in the Ceremony Room at 1pm. If so desired, donations made to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by his family.
