Obituary of Margaret Mary Allen
On August 30, 2024, Margaret ‘Peggy’ Allen (nee Riley), wife, mother, nannie, and friend, passed away at home with the love of her life by her side after a long battle with young onset dementia. Born in St. Catharines, Peggy was a steadfast pillar for those who loved her, always a great listener and present whenever someone needed support. She is survived by her devoted husband, Malcolm Allen, who was her unwavering companion throughout 45 years of marriage.
Peggy’s legacy lives on through her children, Gillian (Kyle) Sheldrick, Callum (Cassandra) Allen, and Lauren (Victor) Fu. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love shaped their lives, and she took immense pride in the compassionate and resilient individuals they have become. She was a proud nannie of Ryer, Keegan, Charlotte, Renan, Ethan, Sloane, and Dylan who brought immense joy into her life. Peggy also shared an unbreakable bond with her siblings, Bonnie Jackson, Anne Marie (Rick) Thomson, Morag Allen, Elspeth (Glen) Silverwood, and Steven (Joanne) Allen. This bond extended to Peggy’s many nieces and nephews, with whom she had a special relationship marked by warmth and affection. The strength of this family network, forged by Peggy’s example remains a source of comfort and inspiration.
Peggy was a radiant spirit whose zest for life touched everyone around her. Known for her impeccable style and elegance, Peggy had an innate ability to light up any room with her presence. Her boundless love for animals was matched only by her passion for gourmet food, and she reveled in sharing exquisite meals with friends and family. Peggy’s infectious laugh was a cherished melody that brightened the darkest of days, and her generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew her. As she joins her parents, Raymond and Mary Riley in eternal rest, her memory will live on through those who hold her dear.
A special thank you to the personal support workers who cared for Peggy over the last few years. Their support and love has meant the world to both her and her family.
