Angela Elia

Obituary of Angela Rose Elia

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful sister and daughter, Angela Rose Elia. Angela passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2024 at the age of 59 years.

Angela was predeceased by her beloved mother, Carmela. She leaves behind her father, Antonio Elia, sister Mary Depascal (Tony), brothers Joe Elia and Rob Elia (Jen), and four nieces and nephews who were her pride and joy. Laura Plastina (Cesare), David Depascal (Jessica), Mason Elia, and Robyn Elia meant the world to their Zia Rosie and will carry her love with them always.

Angela, known as Rosie to her family, was loved deeply by her aunts Teresa Bagnoli and Angie Elia, her uncle Nick Elia, and her many cousins who were very special to her. Rosie was also loved by her late Zia Nicolina, Zio Ferdinando Parente and several cousins in Italy.

Rosie was known for her kindness towards others, her sense of humour, and creative talents. She was expressive in her love, wise in her guidance, and quick with her laughter. Her departure leaves an unfillable void.

Rosie was born on January 25, 1965 in Grimsby, Ontario. She was adored by her big sister and lifelong best friend Mary, and by her younger brothers Joe and Rob. Rosie was raised on the Elia farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake in a spirited, loving home where the children learned the importance of family values, hard work, laughter, and loyalty.

Rosie went to St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School and Niagara District High School, and studied information technology at Mohawk College in Hamilton. Upon finishing school, she joined RBC and moved to Toronto, where she had a successful and progressive career as a well-respected project manager known for her caring and fun nature.

Rosie had incredible creative talents that matched perfectly with her joyful, vivacious personality. Throughout her life she was inspired to turn the simplest things into colourful works of art and she applied her talents to many different forms including sewing, knitting, decorations, and gourmet chocolates. She made every occasion special with her own personal touch.

The depth of Rosie’s love and kindness towards others knew no boundaries. She truly listened to people and was a source of wisdom, comfort, and humour to everyone who crossed her path, with the exact right words for the most challenging and the most joyful of times. Even though she is gone her voice and laughter continue to be felt in our hearts.

Loving her family was Rosie’s top priority. She was in touch with her father every day and was steadfast in her love for him. She nurtured her relationships with her siblings and was an important part of all aspects of their lives.

Rosie held her two nieces and two nephews in her heart and mind every day since the moment each of them were born. She had unique bonds with Laura, David, Mason, and Robyn; she filled them with a lifetime of wisdom and unconditional love – this is her legacy.

Rosie believed in angels, and knew she would reunite joyfully with her mother one day. While that day came too soon for those left behind, there is comfort in knowing she was a spiritual person whose love is everlasting.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8 at George Darte Funeral Home in St. Catherines between 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A funeral mass is planned the following day, Monday, September 9 at 11:00 am at St. Alfred Parish in St. Catherines.

Rosie bravely faced health issues over the years, and was grateful to receive compassionate, world class care. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by the UHN Foundation in Toronto.
