Keith Avery

Obituary of Keith Bryan Avery

Keith Bryan Avery, loved husband of Bette (Clark) Avery passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at Niagara Health System,  St Catharines site. Dearest father of Erin and Jamie McNeill, Oakville; Christa and Matthew O'Kane, Darwin, Australia; Catherine Avery, St Catharines; Will and Lauren Avery, Toronto. Delighted to be grandpa to Owen and Iris Avery.

Born November 29, 1942, son of Edward and Edna (Holmes) Avery, Keith grew up in Dawn Mills, ON along with his siblings Irene (George) Purvis, Gore Bay; Ken (Joy), Dresden; Norma (late Bob) Isaacs, Kingsville. Keith will be missed by Bette's family, Donna (late Keith) Babcock, Dresden; Doug (Winn) Clark, Brantford. Uncle Keith was a fan favourite of his 12 nieces and nephews and their families. His aunt Jean (Holmes) Law and his many cousins remember him fondly.

After graduating from University of Manitoba in 1968, Keith and Bette eventually settled in St Catharines where Keith spent the majority of his teaching career at Governor Simcoe HS. He brought the world of mathematics to life for many students who loved him for his wit, his approachability, and his genuine interest in their progress through life. They called him Kojak. Keith coached and played basketball and badminton for many years and followed many other sports, but like his dad, had a soft spot for the ponies.

His family and friends (the Crazies!) were so dear to him. Keith will be remembered for his kindness to others, his zany sense of humour, and the number of questions he had to ask the server (often a former student) before he could order a meal.

Keith's memorial service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:30 pm at Church of the Good Shepherd, 675 Niagara St, St. Catharines, site of Grace Mennonite. Doors open at 1pm.

Reception to follow at Wrigley's Sports Bar and Lounge, 2 N Service Rd, St Catharines...where Keith and the Think Tank met regularly to solve pressing matters.

In memory of Keith, consider a donation to your favourite charity, or a simple act of kindness. Please feel free, although not obligated, to wear your Hawaiian, flannel or denim shirts.

Romans 8:39

Nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus Our Lord.
