Akke Verbeek

Obituary of Akke Ann Verbeek

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, our beloved mother, Oma, sister, sister-in-law and friend was welcomed by her Lord and Saviour into her heavenly home.  Akke Ann Verbeek passed peacefully secure in her faith surrounded by family at St. Catharines General Hospital.

Akke Ann  was born on July 3, 1960 in St. Catharines, Ontario to Bouwe and Djoeke Visser, the fourth of six children.  She was predeceased by her loving husband, Cor Verbeek (2018) to whom she was married for almost 36 years, whom she missed incredibly.  Akke Ann was a woman of incredible faith, walking with God throughout her journey of life.  She was always thoughtful of others, generous to a fault, putting the needs of others before her own.

Akke Ann is survived by her loving children who will miss her immeasurably, Ryan and his wife Lindsey and Kristen, as well as her two grandsons, Adam and Hudson, whom she deeply loved and were the light of her life.  She will also be missed by her siblings:  Carl (and Linda) Visser, Al (and Anne) Visser, Liz (and Greg) Cayen, Mark (and Maria) Visser and the late Ed (Tinie) Visser.

Ann is also survived by Cor’s family – Bill (Chris) Verbeek, Jake (Roxanne) Verbeek, Shorty (the late Bea) Verbeek, Sena (the late Mark) Postma, Alwynn (the late Ed) Verbeek, the late Mike Verbeek, Betty (Jack) Zaenglien and Tinie (the late Ed).

Many nieces and nephews also survive as well as extended family in The Netherlands.

Visitation will take place at George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 2 pm to 5 pm.  The Service of Mourning and Celebration  of Life will take place at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 278 Parnell Rd. at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024 with reception to follow.

Akke Ann asked that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy  in her honour go to University Health Network.

The family wishes to thank the medical staff at UHN for the amazing care they provided to their mother over the last few years, as well as Dr. Segal, St. Catharines for his care.  The staff at St. Catharines General (ER and Ward 5A)  where Akke spent the last two days were extremely caring and went above and beyond to make her comfortable and also care for the family.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God our Father – this was her faith!
