Obituary of Elizabeth Eva Zabek
Zabek, Elizabeth (nee Konopka) passed away peacefully with family at her side on Friday, October 18 2024 in her 92nd year. Survived by her cherished husband, Joseph Zabek and her loving children Carla (Kevin) and Greg (Cindy) Zabek; grandchildren Isabella, Alexander, Benjamin, Sebastian and Mary; sister-in-law Arlene Konopka. Elizabeth will also be missed by her adoring nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Martin and Katherine Konopka, siblings Jadwiga (Zygmunt) Wojtas, Valerie (Cyril) Bulanda, Zenon Konopka and niece Barbara Wojtas.
Elizabeth was a remarkable woman who led a remarkable life. Her journey began in Lwów, Poland and continued through Siberia, Iran, Africa, England and ultimately St. Catharines.
The family is very grateful to the staff at Niagara Hospice and the Walker Family Cancer Centre for their compassionate care for Elizabeth.
In keeping with Elizabeth’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. An evening visitation will be held on Monday, October 21st from 7:00 – 9:00 pm with prayers at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass to be held Tuesday, October 22nd 2024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 5 Oblate St., St. Catharines beginning at 11:00 am followed by burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery with a reception at the Polish Hall, 43 Facer St, St. Catharines. If desired, please consider donations to the Canadian Cancer Society and Hospice Niagara in honour of Elizabeth.
