Obituary of Robin Bruce Eaglesham
Died unexpectedly at the age of 69 as a result of complications from a heart attack at the Hamilton General Hospital within the first hour of Saturday October 26, 2024.
Robin, the son of the late Albert (Bert) Eaglesham and late Elizabeth (Betty) Ouellette (Rennick) was born in Welland and grew-up in Dunnville, Ontario. Robin leaves his wife of 34 years Doris (Jones), his son Reed and daughter Susan Marinoff (Matthew). Robin is also missed by his sisters Sharon Noiles and Wendy Morton, brothers-in-law Howard Jones (Sandy), Donald Jones (Heather), and sister-in-law Carolyn Farag (William). Also grieving are nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and the United States.
Robin earned a BA in Economics from York University, an MBA from McGill University, and the designation Certified Financial Analyst. He worked in Calgary early in his career for Suncor but he missed the Great Lakes and being able to sail so he returned to Niagara and worked for Ontario Paper, later called QUNO as Treasury Analyst. He owned Uniglobe Atlantis Travel for a brief time and finished his career as Manager of Treasury for Meridian Credit Union. While with Meridian, Robin would write insightful and witty articles updating the Meridian staff on the expected economic trends. Robin also managed the investment portfolio of the Endowment Fund at Chippawa Presbyterian Church for over 25 years.
Robin’s favourite activity was sailing, especially Wednesday night races at Dalhousie Yacht Club and later the Niagara on the Lake Yacht Club. He sailed with the same group of men for over 30 years and they were real contenders on the water. In 1993 they won the Ontario J/24-Level racing championships and competed in the World J/24 -Level races in Australia in January 1994. Brian, Jeff, Danny, Richard and Jaime will all miss Robin’s quiet competence and easy demeanor in the boat.
Robin enjoyed travelling. When the kids were growing up there was an annual car trip that always had at least one historical site, and, after retiring, he and Doris enjoyed about a dozen cruises with only 2 repeat destinations. Robin had a prodigious memory and encyclopedic knowledge on many subjects. But he never showed it, you just knew by the way pertinent information came up in conversation. He was a quiet man, steady, reliable, loving, and kind.
The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St. on Wednesday October 30th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Final Tribute for Robin will be held at Chippawa Presbyterian Church, 8280 Willoughby Dr on Thursday, October 31st at 2pm. Cremation.
