Obituary of Nvart Seklemian
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Nevart (Rose) Seklemian (née Karougian), on November 18, 2024.
Nevart was born on February 5, 1928, into the resilient embrace of a family of Armenian Genocide survivors. A pillar of devotion and love, she dedicated her life to her family while celebrating the richness of the Armenian language and culture. An avid reader and a passionate admirer of nature, Nevart exemplified grace, strength, and humility.
Proudly Armenian, she also embraced and loved her adopted homeland of Canada, making St. Catharines, Ontario, her home since 1989. She cherished her life there, contributing to her community through her membership in the Armenian Relief Society of Canada. Her commitment to preserving Armenian heritage remains an enduring legacy.
Nevart was predeceased by her loving husband, Yervant, her cherished daughter Salpi (John), and her grandson Shiraz. She is survived by her devoted children, John, Shakeh (Ohannes), and Sonia (Sarkis); her adoring grandchildren, Vartouk (Koko), Narod (Raffi), Menar (Harout), Maral (Hovig), George (Maria), Misag (Elysia), Sevag and her great-grandchildren Shushi (Harout), Nareg, Alina, Nareg, Karni, Joseph, Leyla-Narges and Salpi-Sossé.
Her kind, honest, and virtuous soul has left us with cherished memories and enduring maternal wisdom, offering comfort to her loved ones and all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a guiding light and blessing to us all.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the Armenian Community Centre of St. Catharines.
