Obituary of Florence Kazimowicz
Surrounded by her children, Florence Kazimowicz (nee Reda) passed away on Thursday, November 28th at the age of 93. She is now reunited with Joseph, her loving husband of 65 years, her parents and five of her six siblings. Florence leaves behind her children Liz, Robert (Susan) and Richard (Karen) and grandchildren James, Kate, Michael and Mark. She is also survived by her sister Jasia, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews in Canada, United States and England.
Florence was born in 1931 in Janin Poland. In 1940 she and her family were deported to a labour camp in Siberia travelling for days by train in a freight car. Over the next few years Florence was moved to camps in Iran, Lebanon and Nazareth Palestine, often separated from her family. After the war ended, she and her family were reunited in England. There, she met Joseph, the love of her life. They married and immigrated to Canada in 1954.
Florence was a remarkable woman who was devoted to her family and took pride in caring for them. She was an amazing cook, baker and accomplished seamstress. She also loved gardening, reading, using her iPad and discussing current affairs. Until recently, she continued to pursue these passions. Despite the many hardships, Florence endured as a child, she always maintained a positive outlook. She had a great sense of humour and people were drawn to her cheerful disposition. She was determined and always encouraged her children in their pursuits. Florence consistently ensured that her family was well cared for and her greatest pleasure was spending time with them. Florence was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and The Royal Canadian Legion, Polish Branch 418.
On behalf of Florence, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the medical practitioners who provided excellent care over the years. Special thanks to the staff at the Niagara Health Lung Clinic and the Walker Family Cancer Centre for their support and compassion.
Honouring Florence’s wishes, the family will receive friends and family from 9:30 – 10:30am on Tuesday, December 3rd 2024 at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. This will be followed by a Funeral Mass at our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 11:00am and burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Clinic or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
