Obituary of Josephine Eleanor Baranek
Baranek, Josephine.
March 16th 1930 - December 1st 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Josephine. She passed on at the age of 94.
Josephine will now be reunited with her husband Joseph, her parents Alexander and Anne Stawiany and her sister Sandra Hadenka. Loving Mother of Edward (Janina) and Joanne (Late Heinz). Cherished Babcia of Sherrie Anne (Chad), Jenna (Nole) and Edward Jr. She was affectionately known as "Farm Babcia" to her great grandchildren Colton, Summer and Eddy the third.
Josephine began her professional teaching career at the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board; then moved to the Niagara Catholic School Board after marrying Joseph and moving to the fruit farm in St. Catharines. Josephine had a positive impact on many students that she taught. She loved teaching and was featured in the St. Catharines Standard for special projects that her students were involved in, such as public speaking, art work and hatching baby chicks. She had the honour of presenting an award to one of her students, Linda Evangelista, with the Canada Walk Of Fame in 2003.
In her retirement, Josephine looked forward to spending more time with her family on the farm and attending family celebrations. She looked forward to special events such as the fall chestnut toss, family picnics, walks and sleepovers with her grandchildren.
Josephine was a member of the Star of the Sea Church where she restarted the CWL and served as President. Later, she became the Niagara Regional Chair of the CWL. She was a long standing member of the CWL for over 67 years. Josephine was a kind, compassionate and determined woman. She was there for her family; always supporting and encouraging us all. Her impact will live on, so there are no goodbyes for us. She will always be in our hearts.
Family and friends will be welcomed at George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday December 10th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Vigil Prayers will be recited at 3:30pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Star of the Sea Church, 34 Elgin Street, Port Dalhousie, St. Catharines on Wednesday December 11th at 11am. Rite of Committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
Donations to CWL: Star of the Sea Church would be appreciated by the family.
