Parents James (Jim) and Grace Gudrie were married and lived for awhile in Montreal, Quebec. James (Jim) and Grace Gudrie lived in New York City for 4 years while James worked on the New York subway before they moved to Sudbury, Ontario
While in Sudbury Grace Gudrie found out in 1937 she was sick with Hodgkin lymphoma and that she was pregnant with Ann.
Ann Gudrie (Quiring) was born January 9, 1938 in Sudbury, Ontario. Five years later after James (Jim) joined the Navy in April 1943, Grace and Ann moved to an apartment in Grand Falls, NB. to be near Grace`s family while she was ill. James (Jim) returned to Grand Falls in December 1945 and lived with them until Ann`s mother Grace Edna O`Regan died on May 9, 1947. James then moved back to Sudbury to work in the mines. Ann was nine years old at the time and stayed in Grand Falls because James and Grace agreed before her death that Ann would attend boarding school in N.B. after she passed.
Ann boarded at Mount Carmel Academy in St. John’s, NB, 1947 & 1948 for grades 5 & 6. She then attended Boarding School in Moncton, NB in 1949 & 1950 for grades 7 & 8. When Ann wasn`t attending boarding school she lived with her grandmother in Grand Falls, NB. When Ann was 13 yrs old and ready to enter high school, she moved to Sudbury and joined her father. Ann attended a Commercial Program for two years.
While working in Sudbury after High School Ann met the love of her life, Lloyd Quiring, through a mutual friend. They were married in Sudbury October 6th, 1956, and immediately moved to St. Catharines. Their first apartment was on James Street.
Ann and Lloyd had four children in five years and bought their first home in St. Catharines on Sullivan Drive in 1961. They then moved around the corner to Overholt Street in 1967 were they made their loving home for 50 years. They were part of a large neighbourhood family who looked out for each other’s children. This resulted in a very warm and inviting home. Ann loved and enjoyed all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and nurtured them to be the people they are today.
