Mr Stockwell was my elementary school teacher for many years at Canadian Martyrs School. His devotion to teaching served as an example for me in my career. I am saddened by his passing. My sincere condolences to his friends and family.

"Just to be is a blessing.
Just to live is holy"
We thank God for the blessing of John's life and we express gratitude that on this earthly journey our paths were permitted to cross.

I was very sorry to read of John's passing.
John and I shared the excitement of living on Division Street when there were no "crack" houses, not even a "boot legger"; the "canal bank" (now called Confederation Park); ball games at Riordan Park; skating at the Garden City Arena; and road hockey.
It was during one of our road hockey games that John left a lasting impression on me. We were on opposing sides and I went for the ball. John went for the ball but went for my stick first. He lifted my stick with such force that it struck my left forehead and eyebrow and I suffered a severe gash to the left eyebrow.
I was taken by my mother to Dr. Finlayson, who had his office at the end of St. Paul Street, close to Geneva St. He stitched me up in no time (3 or 4 stiches) and I was on my way home. Of course I had a "black eye" the next day. John came to my house the next day to look at my "wound" and to apologize. We remained good friends but I watched his moves when we played road hockey.
We moved from Division Street in 1951, and I very seldom saw John after that.
It never ceases to amaze me how you can live in a City as small as ST. Catharines and not see your friends and acquaintenances more often.
My condolences and sympathy go out to all of John's family. He was a great guy, and I know he will be missed.
