Obituary of John Joseph Stockwell
STOCKWELL, John Joseph (1939-2009)
John Joseph Stockwell went to be with his Saviour in his sleep on Tuesday, October 27th after a long illness with his family at his side. Beloved husband of 47 years of AnneMarie (Hirter), treasured father of Ted and Jessica, Seattle, WA. and Donna Stockwell of St. Catharines. Loving grandpa of Thomas and Sarah. Special thanks to Father Paul Curley who was a wonderful friend and traveling companion for many years. He is survived by his sisters Anita (Bill) MacIntosh and Joanne (Lloyd) Climenhage, Aunt Kay and Uncle Harold Martin and many cousins. Predeceased by his mother M. Camilla (1971) and his father Joseph (1985).
Family was most important to John and he devoted his life to his children. John had been a teacher with St. Catharines Separate School Board and Lincoln County Separate School Board until his retirement in 1996 having taught at a number of schools. He was particularly interested in science and experiments. He had a lifelong interest in trains especially his HO scale train set and photography. His passion was the theatre organ as he fervently supported his children's involvement in their music. John was one of many hundreds of volunteers who helped restore Shea's Buffalo theatre organ.
Special thanks to all the staff of Extendicare and Dr. Brooks for their kindness, gentleness and special care during his illness. They will always be in our hearts and prayers.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass celebrating John's life will take place at St. Julia's Church on Friday at 11 am. A private ceremony of committal will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Rest In Peace, John.
If so desired, a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's society would be appreciated by the family.
