I was deeply saddened to learn only very recently of Don's sudden passing. We were good friends at Trinity College at the University of Toronto and his impish grin, terrific sense of humor, and great love and knowledge of music were an inspiration to all. He introduced me and others to the joys of going to the symphony by getting us to buy seasons tickets in the cheap seats, way up in the bleechers of old Massey Hall in our first year of college. He was also a young man at the time who was deeply intellectually curious, with a great stamina for late night conversation and debate. Though our ways parted after Trinity as Don chose to pursue his conducting career in Europe, he was one of those people who always stays with you in the fondest of memories and I shall miss him greatly. My sincerest and deepest condolences to his brothers and family.

Dear Dr. Orr, Jim, Bill and Bob
I was so saddened to hear of Don's passing. Don and I were good friends at SWC and wrote a column together for the St. Catharine's Standard newspaper regarding school functions and activities. We lost contact after high school but I will never forget his friendliness, bright smile, immense talent and sense of humor. Please accept my deepest condolences.

To The Orr Family:
I have just recently, with much shock and sadness, heard of Donald's passing. I'm sorry that I was out of touch.
Donald shared an extraordinarily keen intelligence and wit, as I'm sure you all know, and these blazed quite brightly for all of humanity's enjoyment. His writings spanned the globe. He gave me loyal friendship, and support, and I was much the better for his gift. Indeed, Donald was eager to help others in any way possible. I witnessed some of his good works. His quiet, but sure camaraderie blessed me as I have walked through this life, at times with him, at times not. I deeply mourn the passing of my wonderful friend Donald Orr. My belated heartfelt condolences and sympathy go out to his family and friends. I hope some healing has begun for you.
I believe I have some pictures of Don at Strawberry Island, or at various gatherings over the last ten years. If interested I'm happy to be contacted through the Toronto phone directory (Church Street), or at jeff_bishop@hotmail.com

Dear Dr. Orr, Jim, Bill and Bob,
You can imagine our deep sadness upon learning of Don's death. A million glimpses of Don flew through my mind and I ran to my stash of photos and found a marvellous picture of he and Paula before a big dance at SWC.
Although you will miss him so very much, I'm sure you are taking great comfort in the assurance of our faith that he is at peace and reunited with those he loved.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
With our love and deepest sympathy,
Babs and Jim McKnight

I was deeply sorry to hear of Donny's passing. He really was so likeable and friendly. Of the 4 Orr boys, he was the one who seemed to have a smile on his face most often.
Jim, Bill, Bob, and Dr. Orr Sr. - my most sincere sympathies. I share your sorrow.

Dear Bob -
Don was the one amazing brother I never had the chance to meet. He was off conducting an orchestra in Germany, I think, during the times we did most of our hanging out together. Sending you a great big hug.
your friend,
Alistair

Dear Dr. Orr, Jim, Bill and Bob,
We were shocked and saddened by the news of Donny's death. He was way too young to go. Denise joins me in sending our condolences, as do Sheila and Paul and Deedee. We will be thinking of all of you, as you gather tomorrow at St. George's. (And forgive the "Donny" -- it's how I will always remember him, just as I always fight the same instinct to say Jimmy, Billy and Bobby!)
