Patricia, Noah and Kyla: you don't know me but i am a former student of Tym. I had the pleasure of getting to know Mr. H over a period of 2 years and can't believe that he is gone. He was a great man and a great teacher. I remember just seeing him a few months ago when i went back to the college for a visit, the smile on his face just talking about the most random things, especially about batman. I will miss that. My thoughts are with you.

while only being present at niagara college for two years, a bond formed between Tym and i, as well as with all my instructors.
see, Tym was never just an instructor. not to me, and not to any of us who were part of Art and Design at niagara. we truely were family. Tym was a role model, and a real friend. a guy you could look up to, and a guy you could just sit and chat with. that is, if you enjoyed talking about batman for three hours. :)
Tym was, and will always be a stand up guy. and even tho he will be missed greatly, we never lose our memories of the good times...of the smiles, and jokes, and lectures, and the disappointment in his eyes when we just couldnt figure out how to use guache properly, despite the amount of time he spent trying to teach us. :)
Tym will never be gone, if we keep him close to our hearts.
my love and condolences go out to you, his family, and to all of us who have lost someone really special this last week.
but never fret my friends. someday we'll all meet up again with Tym, and we'll all kick it old school in the clouds.

I was one of Tym's students at Niagara College. I was rather shocked to hear the news this afternoon. Doubly shocked because I had spent some time this past weekend re-telling some stories from college, and going through old assignments. I haven't been back to the campus for close to 7 years now, and to be honest, Tym's name had become fuzzy in my memory. Still, his smiling face and his words never left me. Often, when looking back on what I learned at school, one lesson stands out - something Tym explained to us:
He told us he had made a previous class select what they considered to be their best artwork. They displayed it proudly on their desks and he made the rounds looking over their work. Then he told them to destroy it all. Tear it up. The lesson, as simply as I can write it, is that the talent is not on the paper, it is inside of you. A single expression of talent does not mean as much as training yourself to be capable of high AND consistent levels of expression.
It's a lesson I haven't forgotten, and it has become part of my work philosophy. I have Tym to thank for that.
My condolences to all who knew him better than I. He will be missed, but perhaps his life made a larger impact than most of us can hope for ourselves - the reward of every good teacher.

Hello Patrica, I had known Tym through Niagara College. He was such a delightful, humourous and kind individual. We were at Ridgetown together as the newbies from the college were 'trained'. Then, on the picket line I got to know him so much better. He loved his kids...he said that he and his wife decided to become settled and more secure before having children. What a proud dad! He had a twinkle in his eye when he snuck some Baily's to the group for 'warmth' on those freezing wet days. He brought the radio to keep things light and more tolerable. And he talked about cars...man, he loved my car! (Lexus) He even asked to sit in it, and said it resembled a plane cockpit. He talked about considering the 'Element' (I think it's the boxy Honda). I must say that Pat - you have so many here at the college who are devasted. He leaves a huge void that will be left for a very long time. Saying that, I can't even put myself into your position at this time. But rest assured that many are praying for you and the family, to give you peace and strength. My sincerest expression of sympathy to you and yours. God Bless, Ursula Pelissero

Dear Mrs. Hrycusko & Family,
I send my condolences and deepest sympathy...it was such a shock to hear and I'm sorry for your loss. I was a student of Mr. Hrycusko's last year (which was my 1st year of College) & he was my favourite teacher :)
Mr. Hrycusko was a very artistically talented man who was easy to joke & get along with & he was also funny. I'll always remember the stories he'd tell, especially the one day he kept on talking about Noah & Kyla...and the day he brought in a snowboard (I think it was) that he did an amazing job airbrushing, for Noah.
He'll be missed very much by everyone and all the students he taught many things too, and it wasn't always about Art either. I wish you the best for getting through this very difficult time. Goodbye & Rest In Peace Mr. Hrycusko.

I was shocked and very saddened to hear of Tym's sudden passing. I taught with Tym at Niagara College and remember his easy-going style and sense of humour (he, Jim, and Greg provided a lot of laughs just outside my office door). It wasn't hard to see what a popular teacher he was. It's hard to imagine I'm typing "was"; hard to imagine he's gone from the halls and classrooms. But if there's a special place in heaven for teachers, then Tym's there right now for sure, and a bit of him will live on in all the students he's taught. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.

I was shocked and saddened to hear that Tym passed. Tym was consistent throughout the years that I had known him as a friendly, humorous, and focussed. His dedication to his family, community and profession were admirable. I hope that his (and your) strong community and family bonds will help all of you during this sad time and in the future.
On more than one occasion Tym told of a dream he had of once again fishing with his father. Hopefully he was there to comfort Tym as he passed.

Very sorry for your loss, Mr H was a great teacher and will be missed by all. Niagara wont be the same without him, he touched so many students lives and will be fondly remembered each time we use the lessons he taught us both inside and out of the classroom. He loved his family dearly and talked about you all, all the time. Again sorry for your loss. I know each time I look up to the sky and see a beautiful sunset or clouds so perfect they don't seem real, I will think of him as he paints the skies above from heaven.

I was a student at Niagara College from 1999 to 2001 in the Art and Design program. When I heard the news I was shocked. Tym was a wonderful teacher. Yes he was funny and had a talent for conversing, but also taught me to express myself through my art. Through Tym's class I found an unknown love for airbrushing and I thank him for that. I have a young son and I cannot begin to express my sympathy for his passing. Noah and Kyla will be proud to know that their father was such a wonderful person. I was shocked to see Mr. Hrycusko's name in the obituaries. I attended Niagara College from 1992-1994 and he was one of my teachers. He was a good teacher - easy-going but insisting on doing well. I remember the bike helmets he had sitting in his office that he had airbrushed with all kinds of cool designs. My seven-year-old has a new helmet and he doesn't care for the graphics on it so I was thinking of airbrushing something else over it. Since it's been a while, Mr. Hrycusko popped into my mind as someone to call and ask how to go about it. Now I'll never have the chance. How quickly our lives can change! The reality of the brevity of life strikes us at times like these. How we must all be ready to meet our Maker! May God give you strength and peace in the time ahead.
