Obituary of John Michael Smith
Smith, John Michael (Mike): On Thursday February 3, 2011 at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 90th year. Beloved Husband of Kaye for more than 62 years. Loving father of Kathy (Don) Green and Mary Jo (David) Swindley. Cherished Poppy Mike of Chris (Stephanie) Green, Michael (Nikki) Swindley, Matthew (Lauren Nolan) Swindley, and great grand poppi of Elizabeth Campbell-Swindley. Mike is survived by his brother Pat Smith and sister Doreen Southon, and many nieces nephews and friends. Predeceased by his brothers Felix, Bernerd (Doc), Miles (Buddy), his sisters Corrine Cline, Margaret Williams, Irene DelMonte, and Shirley Hallett. Mike was a life long member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, He worked for Ontario Hydro for more than 38 years, he was a WWII veteran, who liberated Holland all by himself, as the story goes, and don't worry Mike, we'll take care of your cat Baby for you. The family would like to extend their gratitude and love to dear friend Dr. Eli Rabin, Dr. Waler, and the CCAC homecare nurses and Special Thanks to Diana and Debbie from the PCU at the St. Catharines General Hospital for all their care and compassion for Mike.
Mike is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines. Visitations will begin on Saturday Feb 5th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and Sunday Feb 6th, from 2-4 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Mary's Church on Monday Feb 7, 2011, at 10 a.m., with cremation to follow. Vigil prayers will be said in the funeral home Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Memorial remembrances made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated by the family.
