So many memories ...
It seems like the Mudriks have been a lovely fixture in our neighbourhood forever, as I think that they moved to Cartier Drive in the same summer that we did. I certainly remember the duck and a variety of loved pets that the Mudriks have had over the years. I remember that Mike and Mary were the first to send me flowers when I was in the hospital, even though I had been away at grad school for a few years by that time. I remember that my Dad just could not wait until Christmas morning to show me the bookcase that Mike had made for my apartment. I love that bookcase and it has a place of honour in my home, and I also remember seeing the beautiful armoire that he made for Debbie. There was always a wonderful project on the go! And my Dad was always stopping by to see Mike in the garage/workshop to catch up on what was happening and for a long chat. If you wanted to know what was happening on the street, Mike would know. I am thankful for all of the kindness of all Mudriks when my Mother and then my Dad passed away. Finally, my husband and I were honored that Mike shared with us the apparent secret to wonderful lawn - it became a running joke between us every time we saw Mike, and I still chuckle when I think of it!
~ God Bless You and Keep You Safe Until We See You Again, Mr. Mudrik!

We were saddened to read about Mike's death in the Standard.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to you Mary and your wonderful
family. As Bud and I reflected back---just a few years ago:)
we were reminded of the great years at Prince Philip School. I'll not elaborate on memory lane, as sometimes details get muddled but I'm sure you could tell some tales as well. Ha!!!
Know you are in our thoughts and prayer.

Dear Mary and family
Our hearts ache at your loss, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
It was such a privilege to have you guys as our neighbours....you made us feel so welcome to the neighbourhood. We will always remember Mike puttering around the garden or hearing the saw in the garage...those sights and sounds will be greatly missed. One can only imagine how wonderful the grass in Heaven is going to look now Mike is there.
Much love to you all,
Allan, Maureen, Chris and Amanda

Mike was my favourite teacher at The Collegiate. When we first met in class I knew that he was just more than a teacher; he turned into a good friend over my years at school. Spending time in the class was always enjoyable since I knew that Mike would make the teaching/learning process more than just a matter of fact event. I was a year or two behind Joe in school and met him in the pattern shop over the years when he'd stop in to see Mike. One of the best memories from each fall was Mike questioning me as to what day I'd be reporting to the field to try out for football; without fail Mike would ask me this all the time and made me feel as if he really was interested in me as a person and not just as a student. I am just so glad to have had the chance to be a student of Mike's all those years ago.
Please accept my condolences on the loss of a great man.

Thank you
The first time I ever saw Mr. Mudrik, I was five or six, he had a racoon on a leash and was walking past my house, as he went around the block. In grade two I found two very good friends in his twin sons Kevin and Joe. As our friendship grew I was welcomed into the Mudrik household by Mr. and Mrs. Mudrik and their other children Debbie and Mike Jr. I was there so often and can't begin to list all the rides, swims, snacks, laughter and warmth I received. When I grew to a man Mr. Mudrik said it was fine for me to call him Mike and Mary did the same. Of course life draws friends apart but Mike came to my stag and the Mudriks honoured me when they came to my wedding. Never a moment went by when Mike didn't stop to talk to me, even when I pulled into his drive way and interrupted his dedicated yard work. He was always so concerned for my well being, especially work. Mike and Mary would invite me in when I walked my sons over from my parents house, on Halloween night, with smiles, hugs and extra treats for the kids. My parents and brothers gave me a wonderful childhood but Mike and Mary Mudrik, my friends Kevin and Joe and Debbie and Mike (Jr.) contributed to and ensured it. I can never thank them enough. So I'll say it again, "Thanks for all the swims, Mr. Mudrik!"
Love John

I'm so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was a great teacher, husband, father and friend. He was always so friendly and kind with a great sense of humour and he sure loved coaching those Collegiate Saints football teams! We had some wonderful times at Collegiate while teaching and also at the retirees luncheons. He was always so interested in his family and I had many conversations with him about the 3 Collegiate taught sons: Mike, Kevin and Joe. It was such a privilege knowing and working with Mike and like everyone else, I will miss him. My prayers are with the family at this difficult time. Fortunately we all have some great memories of Mike.

The Duck
When I was a kid, I remember Mr. Mudrik had this young duckling that followed him around his yard. I don't know how this baby duck came to him, but it imprinted on and shadowed him everywhere he went on the property. Whenever Mr. M. would go out to care for the lawn (without a doubt, the best looking lawn on our street) the duck would follow behind step for step.
I recall that Mr. M. didn't mind at all, he'd go about his business with the duck quacking and waddling along behind him.
It was one of the sweetest things I'd ever seen.
If Heaven is the way I like to envision it, Betty and Hank have already given Mike a warm welcome and a nice shot of Crown.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sad and difficult time.
~ Heidi
