Dear Joan:
I just learned about Steve ("Mr. Kijanka") earlier today from my mother, almost two months later. I am so sorry to hear about this. After reading what other people wrote, I remember many a happy time back in my days at Lakeport where he taught me law and accounting. Of course, I also think of having you for math at P.K. Kerwin. We would make small bets on the NHL playoffs, and I would usually win because he went with Rangers and/or Sabres. I remember him taking me to a Buffalo Sabres game with the New York Islanders, going to Niagara Falls, New York for clams with my friends (other students he knew). He was always smiling, always upbeat, always respectful of everyone. I haven't seen either one of you for a number of years, although I remember calling up on an impulse a few years ago, but he was heading out. Please write back to me when or if you ever see this message. Although late, I give you my best.

You have my deepest sympathy in the loss of a great man. I have many wonderful memories of Steve, golfing, going to the slots, at camp Dorset and of even just hanging out at the Lion's Club. He was a good friend to me and will be greatly missed by the community he served.

Dearest Pam and Joan:
What can I say about Steve, the father, grandfather and husband? What a great loss. He brought much laughter with him at Lexi's party. I was always amazed at his love for his family. He was so proud to be Pop. We had quite the conversation, just before he passed and I believe he was really, truely happy. The times we spent together in the summer at the pool, and talking endlessly about plants. It's funny, just the other day, I think it was Wednesday, I noticed that the plants Steve gave me, have just come to bloom.
He was someone that we were glad to know, and happy to spend time with.
We will truely miss him.
Love Julie, Philip and Devyn

We send our love and prayers at such a difficult time. As you say goodbye remember the good times. The one and only time I had the opportunity to meet your dad Pam was at Lexi's birthday party. He was the centre of attention at the dinner table that night. That was a wonderful way to meet your dad, and a good way to remember him now.
God has him now and he will watch over all of his family.
With all our love, Jim, Cathy, Braden and Gabrielle Buckley

To Steve's family, I am very sorry to hear the news. I went to Lakeport back in the early 70's. I had Steve for one of my accounting courses.
But it was not until years later, that I had the opportunity to know Steve as a friend, through baseball.
( Champion Gas Bar ) Steve took on the role as player coach, and instilled tremendous confidence in me, by picking me to captain the team. He was a fun loving, passionate person. It was a pleasure to have known him and I am sure he was a wonderful family man as well.
You can take pride in knowing that Steve was well liked and well thought of.

Dear Pam, and family: I have not seen you for many years but think of you often. I was saddened to hear of the loss of your father. It is very difficult to lose a parent at such a young age. My dad passed away 4 years ago, so I know how unfair it seems and how hard it will be to get through this next little while. Enjoy your children and remember the joy they gave to your father! I am sure he was a doting grandfather-he looks very proud in the photo.
When things have calmed down for you, please contact me-I found that it was a big help to talk to others who had lost a parent at a young age. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.
