Reflections on Aunt Eva
The first time I met Aunt Eva was when we visited her family following Garth's graduation from Stony Brook, New York. That was in 1966 so I had just turned 14.
It seemed strange to be meeting my father's siblings. Of course I already knew his mother, and I had met his father; but only once, bedridden, barely able to speak, shortly before he died. But I had never even seen any other relation on my father's side.
I believe we met Evert and his family right before we met hers. I was struck by how similar Evert was to my dad in appearance but not temperament—he had a lighter spirit. Meeting his sister would be completely different—she was female.
I was nearly struck dumb. She looked so much like both my dad and their mother, except that Eva was beautiful. Gramma wasn't ugly but she was old. Eva had a youthful spirit, a warm smile, a cheerful voice and a soft and delightful laugh. It was the first time I can remember noticing how beautiful skin could be. I loved her immediately. She was always on the go, a whirlwind of activity, and I felt so welcome. There's a warmth to those memories that still remains. I'm thinking she was the perfect wife, mother and nurse and that everyone could not help but love her.
I was determined to visit her family again but was able to do so only one more time, following my graduation from Stony Brook four years later. Ruth and I had just become a serious item and I showed her picture to Aunt Eva. The only comment she made that I remember was that Ruthie sure wore a lot of eye makeup. Being so far away and with life moving right along, I regret that I never found the time to return again. I wish our families had been more engaged.
She will be greatly missed. Paraphrasing C. S. Lewis, we know her spirit, we have our memories, so our love remains alive. She will rest in peace and in the glory of God.

Dear Dr. EAGLESON and Family.
Please accept my sincerest condolence on the demise of dear Eva. I saw the announcement in last Sunday's Bulletin of the Glenridge Bible Chuch.
I cherish the times when Eva joined us in the various activities hosted by Dr. Michael and Margaret Connolly. Eva has got to be one of the sweetest most gentle lady I've ever met.
Though her death strikes a note of sadness, I also rejoice because she has finally gone home to be with our Lord.
Keep well, Dr. Eagleson. You are very dear to me. May you find strength and comfort in our Lord who loves you dearly.
In Christian Love.
Amy

Dear Mac, Lois, Janet, David and families,
Please accept my sincere condolences. I remember Eva's kindness and warmth at family gatherings and also her natural elegance. As a little girl I thought she was so beautiful. How blessed you all were that she wrapped you in her love for all those years. May you hold on to many wonderful memories and take comfort that she is now in the presence of the most amazing love of all.

When I think of your Mom/Wife, the song "Give thanks with a grateful heart", runs through my mind..because when I think of the profound Impact she has had on my life and the ripple effect it has insued I give thanks to God and to your entire family and my heart overflows with gratefulness, every day of my life I am grateful to God for his amazing love for me and now to our family...a blessing beyond measure! I have so many sweet memories of your Mom, sun. am, breakfasts, my Pioneer Girl Pal, holidays at the cottage, wonderful picnics and many more...but most of all her sweet, kind, warm presence that brought such warmth and love. In 1985 Eva and I traveled to Israel. Eva had a great sense of humour as can be seen here. I am not certain who was more shocked, Eva or the Camel.

Dear Mac and family,
We mourn with you the loss, temporarily, of your beloved Eva. We can't estimate or fully understand how big the loss of this precious person is to you. The whole Eagleson family have a special place in our hearts. It was the Eaglesons who first invited us up to Woodlands Beach for a Sunday at the Chapel. That led to 29 consecutive years of that being an important and blessed time in our lives, with a Sunday each summer at Woodlands Beach.
The Eagleson young people were good friends with some of our young people, especially Esther and Janet. We will not forget either Mac, your officiating at the organ in Bramalea Baptist Church back in the days when churches had organs!
The one thing that is outstanding for us as Christians is HOPE. We will all see each other again in a blessed and forever union. We, Bill and Jessie, have, like you, Mac, been married for 66 years this September.
All for now,
Bill and Jessie Wright

Dearest Mac and Family,
"Taking a joyous ride with Mac and Eva on NUMBER 15 WEST" was truly a neighbourhood memory that I will never forget when we lived on Glendale. The bus ride with Mac (the Eagle) and Eva were not only amazing human beings, they were terrific neighbours who I, along with my son Gregory become trusted friends.
Lois, Janet and David, your Mother was loving, caring, special, mindful and full of prayers for those who were in need. Her gentle soul and kind heart is what we came to know and cherish. Eva made a difference on this earth in many, many ways.
And, as Eva would say, "The Eagle" has landed!
Love,
Marilyn
