I lived with Barrie and his parents in Dorking for awhile.
I remember he was always more adventurous than me
although I was a few years his senior
.Every day I would always wonder what he was up to now; and we lived in the same room
We lived in a flat above a library book storage area; I think.
We lost touch when I returned to Vancouver. As i recall he did have a lot of energy
RIP Barrie Reg

I was so sad to hear about Barrie- although I have not seen or heard from him in many years, he was definitely an unforgettable character! I knew Barrie when he lived in Dorking, England around 1978. A big character- known by all in the town! He liked a beer or two at his favorite pub - The Kings Arms where I remember how he always had a chat to the salvation army lady who came round collecting for charity on an evening. He loved a curry, worked for a while at Dorking Tyres and was obsessed with reading Axa the comic strip in the newspaper. A great guy with a big heart and an amazing artist. I have heard bits & pieces of his life over the years, and am so glad that it sounds like he had a family who loved him- all i can say is cheers Bazaar Barrie

It is 17th September - Time 16.30 in England, where I am writing this.
In Canada the funeral service for my friend Barrie will just be starting.
I am sitting and thinking of the times we spent together many years ago.
I met Barrie in Dorking, England in 1973. We became good mates. He was exciting to be with, a great character and a close friend. We shared the love of music and a good drink or several! There are so many musical tracks that take me back to places and times spent with him. Like most, we had great times but also shared the difficult ones.
As the years passed we went our own ways, and for many years nearly lost contact.
He was a good man with a big heart. In my mind I am shaking his hand, giving him a huge hug and repeating the words he said to me when his family left England.
"Goodbye my old mucker".

Barrie was my rockstar neighbour! He would always have my favourite station, 97.7 blasting while he sang along like a rockstar! Every time my kids and I would come down the hall and hear Barrie singing away, we would lip sync and air guitar our way down, rocking out with him! I have known Barrie for the last 6yrs, and he has been nothing but a friendly, happy face around the building. (He would hold the door for me every time too!) I took comfort knowing my kids had an awesome neighbour that I could trust, incase of an emergency. Kye and Alyssa said they will miss walking with Barrie and Marty around the park, "chit chatting." With heavy hearts, we express our sincerest condolences to Barrie's family, friends, and to his best pooch, Marty. RIP Barrie
