It still seems shocking to know that The "Rocket" has passed away. It was a beautiful funeral with such eloquent and moving eulogies. Bob was so special in so many ways but one of his greatest qualities was how he made you feel when you talked to him. Bob always made you feel so special and his humour, friendliness and caring nature made him a joy to be with. Doug Robinson and myself talked about this very special quality after the funeral. One funny story that I won't forget occurred when we played at Sawmill during a school golf tournament. Bob said that I had a "metal wood" and I said that this was called an oxymoron! Well The Rocket started to laugh as we all did and kept repeating the term oxymoron for a few holes. I guess he was shocked that a math teacher knew this english term! It was just one of those special moments with Bob which I will always cherish.

Sorry to read about Bob's passing. We've known each other for well over 50 years. Although we were never chummy, chummy, we always recognized each other when our paths crossed. It's a wonder to me, that we didn't travel in the same circle, as one of my best friends are Gerry and Kathy.
The one thing that I will always be grateful for, is that Bob always had a great welcome smile and he made me feel as though I was a best friend.
I extend to you my sincerest condolences. I know his family will miss him terribly as will many of his friends and acquaintances.

Barb: I was extremely saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. Carole’s and my heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. I replied to Barry Schell who informed me of the news that it was only a few days ago I was looking at a picture of our old high school basketball team which Bob had sent me a while back and had marked the names of those no longer with us. It brought back so many good memories of those days and of the good times we had. I am glad that we somehow managed to stay in touch over these last years , not close touch but enough that we still recognized each other on the phone and could stay somewhat updated on the course our lives were taking. He was a special person who always brought a smile and lots of laughter to our group. “The rocket” will always be one of my favorite memories of those high school days. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and familyat this time. Terry “Obie” O’Brien

I attended Lakeport from 1984-1989. Even as a teenager I knew what a special man and teacher Mr. Cornelius was. He took the time to get to know each student, even those he didn't teach. He was always friendly and encouraging. Just a few years ago, I had the pleasure of working with him on the Lakeport 50th reunion. I was able to get to know him as an adult and he was everything I remembered. I would run into him once in awhile at the IceDogs games with Mr. Hewitt and he always was happy to chat. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. How lucky are we who were blessed with knowing him.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

In thirty years of teaching at Lakeport, there was only one colleague that I envied. Luckily I was able to tell him a couple of months ago. Rocket had all of the qualities of a perfect gentleman, teacher, husband and father. He would have been a great brother or friend but he was neither. He was a cherished colleague. Rocket confided in me the hurt he felt when his brand new Corvette was stolen from the Penn in his bachelor days. So I lent him my Vette for a day. Instead of driving it, he spent the day with his son cleaning it. I couldn't believe it. Anytime you saw him there was a smile and a funny line. Barb, family and friends will miss him immensely and I feel for them. Our thoughts are with you. Being a history teacher, I can only surmise that his reaction to the presidential election would have been "BRUTAL", his favourite descriptor.

My sincere condolences to your family on your loss. Bob was always a pleasure to work with at Remax. Always a smile and good wishes for the day. A true gentleman. And my son Chris always enjoyed delivering the paper to your home. And for years later he would tell me whenever Bob passed by in the neighbourhood how he would exchange waves with Chris. Bob was a true blessing to anyone who had the fortune to know him.

As a former teacher of mine at Lakeport, I remember Bob as caring and approachable. When he heard that I was coming to Lakeport to teach he sent me a very reassuring welcome letter which eased the stress of becoming a colleague with former teachers. In the last few years, I occasionally ran into him on the golf course and he always had a warm greeting, friendly smile and was never too busy to chat. He seemed to know where life had taken you and was always interested to hear of your adventures.
Bob will be missed by all who knew him.
May your many happy and wonderful memories help you through this most difficult time.
