Joe and Joan were our next door neighbors for many years. Both were such kind and happy people. I am watching Squadron 303: The Battle of Britain at the moment. It brought back the stories Joe would sometimes share of the war and his disappointment at being grounded as a pilot because of his engineering and mechanical skills.
Godspeed.

We shall always remember Joe with great fondness. We always enjoyed having him for Christmas Eve dinners. He'd arrive all dressed up bearing gifts - a few were his incredible miniatures (grand piano and various pieces of furniture) that we will always treasure. He was very generous with these. Ring's sister from Washington state got a tour of his house, the miniatures, and all the other amazing things Joe had created, and she came away with the gift of a miniature desk. Joe's history during World War II was so fascinating that we never tired of hearing his recollections, and when David's sister and brother-in-law (ex-RAF) came to visit, we introduced them to Joe, and they fell under his spell. Joe lived around the corner from us, so we would see him frequently on his dog-walking trips around the block. Joe was remarkable in many ways and touched more people than he probably knew. He also was blessed with the incredible support of his daughter Chris and her husband Brian.

I was sadden to hear of Jo’s passing. Jo and Joan were my god-parents. I have fond memories of time spent in Canada as a child. Although my memories are unfortunately hazy I do recall Jo as an incredibly kind mind. As a small boy I remember being in awe of the marvellous models he used to make. If my memory hasn’t played tricks he once built a large yellow model aeroplane that I can still see in my mind’ eye! My fondest wishes.

I am very sad to hear of Joe’s departure from our world.
Joe became a special friend to our family including my parents and our extended family visitors from the UK, and to me as a young person new to Canada. I believe our families met at the local badminton club around 1960 and remained friends ever since. I was looking for exciting projects in electronics and Joe helped me with these and many new things in other areas also. For example I remember that he played the music and enthusiastically described the accomplishments of Django Reinhardt, the guitar virtuoso who played without the use of two fingers on his left hand.
Watching Joe work and seeing some of his own accomplishments showed me in person, new levels of skill, attention to fine detail and perseverance which I have tried to apply in my own life. Joe was full of interesting stories and always spoke with his characteristic optimism and enthusiasm for living that I remember so well..
I will always hold his memory in a special place in my life.
Sincere condolences to his family.

To the family of Joseph Davidek:
In 1986 Joseph made a detailed model of our three storey brick house on Balfour St. near where he used to live in Pelham, complete with electricity. The interiors of the model faithfully represented the elaborate Victorian trims; doors, baseboards, casings, windows and curved stairs including the balusters and handrails all with precision. He also built a grand piano for the house with fine wire strings and a sounding board.
I think that he wasn't just an employee at GM but rather I understand that he was the chief designer of the car engines made in St. Catharines, but used throughout North America. After retirement he built spinning wheels and a plane at about 1/3 scale, that was an exact replica of the real thing.
He was one of the most impressive and talented men I've ever known and we'll always cherish the model of our house that he created for us.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Joe will be sadly missed walking his dog around the neighbourhood every day. He stopped to talk to everyone and always had a good word to say - he will be missed.

We and our father Craig send our sincerest condolences to Joe’s family. Joe was a really great friend to Craig (and his wife June) over many years. Joe and Craig worked at GM together and post-retirement they enjoyed golfing together and went to lunch every Thursday for years at the same restaurant, where they didn’t need to order, the servers knew exactly what they wanted. We still have several amazing pieces of tiny furniture Joe expertly made and gave to Craig and June. Joe was a wonderful, kind man, a special friend and he will be missed very much.
