(Fr.) Peter T. Rowe posted a condolence

My mind and heart are flooded with many fond memories of Jack Jewiss -- indeed, the entire Jewiss family -- as I ponder his passing and the impact he had on my life. I first met Jack (and Greg) while serving as pastor of Star of the Sea, in the years when visited the Latcham home, with their father Jack, mother Agnes, and aunt Julia (I also remember Lilian); at the time "young" Jack was still teaching in Buffalo. He would tell me many a story of his travels. More than ever, Jack was a sociable, community-minded individual; he immersed himself in the life of organizations connected with the Church at large, his parish, and the city he called home. Jack truly was a "hail-fellow-well-met" type of person, and endeavoured to live his Christianity, strong in his Catholic identity. I have, and will, miss his jovial spirit -- but I will always think of him as much younger than 86. With his departing our midst, a very important connection in my life to Port Dalhousie has faded into history, joining as he does all those deceased family members who went before him and who greatly impacted the life of that part of St. Catharines, along with wonderful neighbours of theirs such as Joseph and Kitty McGrath. I will certainly be keeping Jack in my prayers for his eternal peace. (Fr.) Peter T. Rowe
