Obituary of Katherine Marie Balah

It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of Katherine Marie Balah (63) of St. Catharines, Ontario. Kathy passed peacefully on the morning of May 20th 2021 at the St. Catharines General Hospital with her family at her side. Born in Sydney Mines NS, Kathy was the daughter of the late Marie (McNamara) and Everett MacIntosh, daughter in-law of the late Lloyd and Wilma Balah.

Kathy's life was her family and her friends. She was so proud of and so loved her four children as well as her seven grandchildren. They meant the world to her. Every day was started with plans to be with them. To talk to them. Planning out events such as birthdays, to make them as special as possible gave her such overwhelming joy. Kathy so loved her brothers and sisters, her in-laws, who she also considered to be her brothers and sisters, her cousins and her nieces and nephews. Her close friends who were many and so very special to her. Words cannot express how much she loved her circle of friends. Kathy had a caring way about her that made people want to be close to her. She knew how to live and to love and the people who were lucky enough to be a part of her life felt this. The loss of Kathy will leave a hole in many lives but one thing she would say is "get on with it". She would want her family and her friends to be happy and continue to enjoy life as she did and to make the most of each day.

She will be truly missed by her loving husband Martin, her children; Adrian (Jennifer), Francis (Christina), Tyler (Nicole), Sarah (Matthieu), She was a wonderful and proud grandmother known lovingly and affectionately as Nanny by her grandchildren; Jonathan, Lindsay, Maiya, Isabelle, Nicholas, Phillip and Cooper.

Kathy is survived by her loving and dedicated siblings; Robert (Janis), George (Cathy), Mary Helen, Rhonda (Thane), Jim (Cathy), Wynne, John (Michelle). Kathy was truly a sister and will be dearly missed by; Theresa (Alan), Gerard (Patricia), Cathy (Daniel), Lloyd, Roseanne, Helen (Joe), Noreen (Steve) and Nancy. Her very special Goddaughter Katie MacIntosh.

Kathy’s incredible and large family included so many amazing nieces and nephews who were such a joy to her, words can hardly express her pride and love for them all.

Kathy was proud to have had an over 30 year career with the Niagara Catholic District School Board. Our family is grateful for the support and compassion that she received from her many friends and colleagues over these past months. She truly treasured the many friendships she had with her work family.

Kathy is also predeceased by; her sisters Margaret Ellen (infancy), Karl MacIntosh, her brother Everett MacIntosh and her brother in-law David Balah.

With the support of George Darte Funeral Home a celebration of Kathy's life will take place in the very near future.

In lieu of floral tributes donations can be made in her honour to McMaster Children’s Hospital or Gillian’s Place.
