Obituary of Frank Anthony Silver, Jr.
SILVER, Rev. Frank Anthony - Went to be with his Risen Lord on November 7, 2022 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Mary Lynne (nee Barnes) for 62 years. Loving father of Lisa, Kim, and Mark of Vancouver BC, and Kelly Kernaghan of Burlington ON. Proud grandfather of Matthew and Laura Kernaghan. Predeceased by his parents Frank Silver, Sr. (Julie) and (John) Mildred Roeling of New Orleans, LA. Brother of Helen Romine, Conroe,TX and Gayle Johnston, Metairie, LA; step brother of Robert (Claudette) Clement, New Iberia, LA, and Betty (George) Moore, Mandeville, LA. Brother-in-law of Mario Barnes, Covington, LA. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. God blessed Frank's life with many special people as he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 16 years, 11 of which were served on Active Duty.
Frank Anthony Silver, Jr. was born August 1, 1938 in New Orleans, LA. His baptism took place in August of that same year at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, New Orleans, LA and he was confirmed in March of 1951 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, New Orleans, LA.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Mary Lynne (nee Barnes) at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, New Orleans, LA on December 3, 1960.
Following service in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from Concordia College, Milwaukee, WI in May of 1975 as a Lay Minister. In this capacity he faithfully served Emmanuel Deaf Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, WI, King of Kings Lutheran Church, Omaha, NE, First Lutheran Church, Windsor, ON and Grace Lutheran Church, St. Catharines, ON.
In 1983 he began his studies in the Holy Ministry at Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Catharines, ON graduating in 1988 at age 49. He served his vicarage under the Rev. Matthias R.L. Krey, First Lutheran Church, Windsor, ON and was ordained by Rev. Krey May 29, 1988.
His first call was to the dual parish of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Riceton, SK and Peace Lutheran Church of the Deaf, Regina, SK where he served from 1988 to 1991. From July of 1991 until his retirement in August of 2003, he served Redeemer Lutheran Church, Brampton, ON. During this time he was vicarage supervisor to Rojar Singh who was establishing a ministry to the East Indian community in that area.
During his retirement years, he served as vacancy pastor for the dual parish of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Smithville, ON and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beamsville, ON, where he was vicarage supervisor for Howard Warner. He also filled in for Christ Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Grimsby, ON at various times.
The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Thursday, November 10th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Reverend Silver's Life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Ave, on Friday morning at 11am. Visitation at the church from 10:30am. Interment Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If So Desired, Donation made in Reverend Silver's memory to Concordia Theological Seminary or Soul Ministry at Christ Lutheran Church would be appreciated by his family.
