Obituary of Valerie Ann Green
Valerie Ann Green
1934 – 2023
A lovely and much-loved woman passed away on Monday, April 10 in her 89th year. She now joins Arthur, her devoted husband of 57 years, whose passing 11 years ago left a huge hole in her life.
Valerie is survived by her two sons, Martin (Pam) and Graham (Jenny), her three grandchildren – Alexis (Anthony), Alycia and Taylar – and her great-grandson Beau, whose antics always made her smile. She also leaves behind her sister Diane, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Born in Southampton, England during the Depression, she lived through the Second World War, losing her father when she was just eight. These experiences, and the decade of rationing that followed the war, instilled in her a life-long respect for the value of things and the need to keep and reuse things as much as possible because “that might come in handy one day.”
Together with Arthur, she created supportive and loving homes for her family, first in England and then in Canada after they emigrated in 1965 for new opportunities. Their garden was the talk of the neighbourhood, and Valerie was determined to keep it that way after Arthur was no longer there to tend to it.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Valerie’s life will be held at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, on Saturday, May 13 from 2-4 pm.
Valerie loved all animals, especially her many cats and, in particular, her special cat Cream Puff (Puff), who came to her as a starving rescue in a time of grief and remained her devoted companion for 10 years until he passed just days after she left home for the last time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Lincoln County Humane Society (www.lchs.ca).
