Obituary of Robert Francis Saxton

On Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 at Hamilton General Hospital.

Let it never be said of Bob that he was not curious, thoughtful, or playful—even to the very end. Bob’s presence was indomitable, and he approached each day prepared to find the upside, and to squeeze meaning out of every moment he was given. His exceptional life was filled with adventure and discovery, dwarfed only by the legendary stories he loved to share about it. On his final day he made a game of munching blueberries and cherry tomatoes, bringing welcome laughter and joy into an otherwise humourless place.

Bob devoted so much of himself to his late wife, Carolyn, that he often found it difficult to accept assistance himself; he was determined to always find ways to be helpful to those around him. His certainty of his reunion with Carolyn in heaven was a source of unspeakable strength in his final days on earth. He is survived by his three sons Scott, Grant and Robert, to whom he was a hero, and by whom he will be sorely missed. He also leaves behind three daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren, his sister-in-law, four nieces and his constant canine companion, Molly. Bob will forever be remembered for his easy smile, his desire to help, his inhuman ability to drive long distances and his compulsion to always achieve maximum yield. He was and remains loved by countless friends and he will hold a place in all of our hearts for many years to come.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 19th at Scottlea Gospel Chapel, 500 Scott St. from 11am until the time of a Celebration of Bob's Life at 1pm. If so desired, donations made to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
