Obituary of Dennis Mizel
Dr. Dennis Mizel
February 29, 1952 – January 13, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Dennis Mizel, a dedicated chiropractor, loving husband, father, and friend, on January 13, 2025 at the age of 72.
Born on February 29, 1952, Dennis spent his early years in Toronto. His mother, Ruth and father Sam watched on as he developed a passion for understanding the human body and a deep commitment to helping others achieve wellness. After earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1977, he established a thriving practice in St. Catharines that spanned decades, transforming countless lives with his expertise, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his patients.
Dennis was more than a chiropractor; he was a community leader and deeply committed to continuing education and personal growth. His warm smile, thoughtful conversations, and genuine care extended far beyond his office. He treated every patient like family, fostering trust and creating a legacy of healing and hope. He served as the President of the St. Catharines Heart and Stroke Foundation and was active in his volunteer commitments with Bethlehem Place and the Quest Community Health Centre Chiropractic Program.
He was deeply devoted to serving his loved profession. His time as President and Vice President of the College of Chiropractors spanned two decades. He cherished his colleagues and fellow council members, and brought positivity, commitment, passion and love to his work with the College.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dennis was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, Maxine, who was his steadfast partner in life, and was an inspirational father to his children, instilling in them values of integrity, kindness, and perseverance. In his free time, Dennis enjoyed a fancy meal; and would never turn down a shrimp cocktail! His laugh, love, and warmth left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Most of all, he was known to inspire those around him to be humble and to aspire to be great. He thought anything was possible if you worked hard for it and believed in yourself.
Dr. Mizel’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, but his enduring legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Maxine; his daughters, Ilana (Matt Lampman) and Samantha (Michael Cohen); his cherished grandsons, Jack Lampman, Harrison Cohen, and Ethan Cohen; his sister, Ellen Lablong (Martin); his sister-in-law, Gail, wife of his late brother Jerry; and his nieces and nephew.
Special thanks to all of his beloved friends who spent time with Dennis while at Hospice Niagara. And our deepest appreciation to the loving staff, caregivers, and volunteers that provided him and our family with incredible support.
A celebration of Dr. Mizel’s life will be held at the 320 Vine Street, Clinic Entrance, on January 15, 2025 following burial. Shiva observances will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice Niagara in his honour, reflecting his lifelong dedication to the well-being of others.
Dr. Dennis Mizel’s kind spirit and healing touch will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and patients forever.
