Obituary of Charles Gerard Pouliot
POULIOT Charles
1935 to 2012
He was good with God and so he went peacefully into the arms of the Sacred Heart on December 18th at the age of 77, surrounded by the love of his beloved Joan of 60 years, his 5 daughters, Joanne, Marilyn Schiffer (Hans), Laurie Richards (Bob), Denise Wilson (Doug), Terri Wooten (Darwin), 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He will suffer no more.
Charlie began his lifelong career as a paper maker in 1952 at Provincial Papers (Thorold Division) which eventually took him to Thunder Bay in 1966. He and Joan spent the next 25 years there until he took early retirement. Being the kind of man he was, it wasn't long before he was back working at Domtar in St. Catharines and became a consultant for Thunder Bay Fine Papers. He was always busy, always puttering, always fixing toasters, kettles, whatever needed to be fixed. He was a real Mr. Fix-It but had other nicknames as well "Velcro Man, Sensor Man, Anything for a Buck, Chuck". He was the most organized man we knew, everything in its place and he knew immediately if anything was missing. If any of us went to him with a problem, he could always come up with a solution. He loved gadgets and he had a gadget for everything or he invented one. Over the years, he bowled both 5 and 10 pin, played a little golf and was very fortunate to enjoy a trip to Finland where he went white water rafting. He and Joan loved to travel, loved to camp and spend time with the family.
When he was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995, all of his girls gathered around him for Christmas. And, once again, he has brought us all together for Christmas for the first time since then. We were blessed with the chance to say goodbye to him.
Special thanks to all the nurses on the Palliative Care Wing of St. Catharines General, especially Nicole, Vicki, Lindsay, Marko and Pam.
